Celestron’s 52268 90mm Maksutov Spotting Scope delivers excellent high power optics in a compact, affordable package. The 52268 package includes a backpack style soft carrying case, an 8x21 erect image finder scope, a 1.25 inch size correct image 45* prism diagonal, and a fully coated 32mm plossl eyepiece for a magnification of 39X.

The Maksutov-Cassegrain design of the C90 uses a combination of mirrors and lenses; this “folded” optical system has a focal length of 1250mm in a body only twelve inches long. The Maksutov design delivers high power views without a trace of the chromatic aberration, also called blue fringing, that can distort high power views in competing refractor style spotting scopes. At 40X magnification where some low cost spotting scopes start to seem fuzzy, the C90 is just getting started. The C90 uses the same 1.25 inch eyepieces used in astronomical telescopes. The standard equipment 32mm plossl eyepiece yields a magnification of 39X, but many other eyepieces can be used to vary the magnification.

The Celestron model 52268 seems very well built, with excellent multi-coatings visible on the front lens. The real beauty of this 90mm Maksutov spotting scope, however, is in the view it offers. When I use an optional 12.5mm eyepiece to look at Jupiter at 100X I can clearly see Jupiter’s major cloud bands as well as its four moons. When I look at the Moon and stars I can easily push the magnification to 200X with an optional 6mm eyepiece. When I look at birds in the backyard, I’m treated to delightful views full of vibrant color and crisp detail. With a close focus distance of only 15 feet, the detail and texture I see is simply amazing.

High magnification viewing requires a solid tripod, of course. Celestron’s Heavy Duty Altazimuth Tripod comes with slow motion controls to allow the scope to be pointed precisely, and I can clamp the dovetail base on my CG5 mount for astronomical use. The other drawback to high magnification viewing is a narrow field of view; high magnification makes it hard to follow moving targets like birds in flight. Overall the Celestron C90 Maksutov Spotting Scope does a fine job as a companion to good pair of binoculars. The C90 also doubles as a portable astronomy scope; it won’t show the flag on the Moon but it will show thousands of craters on the Moon as well as showing the moons of Jupiter and the rings of Saturn. --Jeff Phillips

The European Solar Telescope (EST) is the future project for European ground-based solar astronomy. It is the main project for EAST (European Association for Solar Telescopes), an association with 15 member institutions from 15 European countries. The EST's main mission is to observe the Sun. Understanding it is crucial for many reasons: 1. There is a fundamental link between the earth and the Sun. The Sun is of primary importance because it maintains life on earth. Any change in conditions in the Sun could have dramatic consequences for us. Large amounts of energy can be transferred into the plasma, from where it is stored in the magnetic fields, in very small periods, between seconds and minutes. These transfers can accelerate the plasma to speeds of within a fraction of the speed of light and, if this accelerated plasma (in the form of an ejection of coronal mass) reaches the earth's magnetopause, it can give rise to fascinating events (auroras) and phenomena that are potentially dangerous for our environment (damage to satellites, overloading energy lines, excessive radiation exposure for space crews or the International Space Station etc). This means that it is essential for us to study all of these processes so that we can predict them. 2. How Is Appendicitis Treated In Patients Diagnosed With It?

Once a inpatient has been diagnosed with appendicitis at course which is called an appendectomy is performed, the inpatient may also be given antibiotics in order to fight internal infections created by bacteria surround the appendix. Antibiotics are administered to the inpatient prior to a surgery which will deal with the appendix.

There is a small percentage of patients who suffer from a mild appendicitis which remains localized and the internal inflammation does not cause the appendix to rupture, in such patients their bodies are able to combat the situation internally and with a little help with antibiotics the appendix can naturally heal, it is patience there is no appendix rupture and an infection has not spread colse to the abdomen. This health is also known as a confined appendicitis, in such cases the appendix may or may not be removed after the body has finished healing this area.

Telescope

From time to time a someone might not become fully aware of his or her health and he or she can wait from some days to weeks before consulting with their doctor, in such cases the appendix may have ruptured and caused an internal infection which created internal abscesses which are nothing more than an accumulation of pus near the area of the rupture.

Patients who have waited long sufficient until abscesses have been created and the appendix has closed, can be effectively treated by administering antibiotics and the abscesses can be extracted straight through a drainage process. In order to drain and to remove the appendix if it is essential that physician may generate a perforation directly above the affected abdominal area, a tube is inserted straight through this whole in order to drain the abscesses but before that the infection that's to be settled with tools such as an ultrasound or a Ct scan.

Nor techniques which have been industrialized in order to remove the appendix comprise the use of devices such as a laparoscope which is a small telescope that has a camera attached to it and it is connected to a monitor which allows the surgeon to peruse the area and accurately find the position of the appendix as well as any other abscesses which might have been created colse to it, once it is settled in the appendix as well as the infection can be removed.

Boom Lifts and Cherry Pickers and Their Uses

Boom lifts and cherry pickers are varieties of aerial work platform (Awp) or mobile elevating work platform (Mewp). Also known as powered access machinery, these lifts provide temporary access to otherwise inaccessible areas using extending mechanical platforms. Some Awps only enlarge in one direction, for example scissor lifts, which move vertically on a concertina device. Boom lifts and cherry pickers have the benefit of outreach as well as height, and are more versatile.

There are various types of boom lift and cherry picker. Some have further outreach or a higher working height than others, but all succeed the same principle. A platform or pail is attached to the boom, which can enlarge upwards and from side to side, or contains hinges that allow it to provide an 'up and over' movement. The operator works on the platform, protected and contained by a cage or safety rail, and is raised to the proper height or position safely, either by controls on the platform itself, or by a second operator at ground level.

Telescope

Stick booms provide height and outreach, but only enlarge vertically and rotate laterally. Articulating booms and cherry pickers allow for more accurate access to difficult to reach areas, for example to accomplish maintenance and repairs on an aircraft. Booms and cherry pickers are the closest version of aerial platform to a crane, but are very dissimilar in the way they move and are controlled.

Boom lifts and cherry pickers tend to be larger than other types of Awp, like scissor lifts and personnel lifts, which come in compact and narrow versions for use in warehouses and offices. Boom lifts, therefore, are often used on large-scale projects such as construction and events. The very largest platforms, mounted on a truck or lorry, can enlarge their telescoping sections to a height of more than 100 metres.

Smaller booms are also available, for use in telephone and power line maintenance, window cleaning, tree surgery and fire fighting. And, of course, the former use to which cherry pickers were put - harvesting fruit!

These types of Awp are commonly powered by diesel, due to their weight, but some of the smaller versions may be powered by Lpg, electricity, battery or pneumatics. Some are self-propelling, while others are mounted, or are fitted with legs, and are known as spider lifts. Spiders are beneficial in areas where the lift must manoeuvre through narrow doorways, or to provide stability on uneven ground.

There's more to the cosmos than meets the eye. About 80 percent of the matter in the universe is invisible to telescopes, yet its gravitational influence is manifest in the orbital speeds of stars around galaxies and in the motions of clusters of galaxies. Yet, despite decades of effort, no one knows what this "dark matter" really is. Many scientists think it's likely that the mystery will be solved with the discovery of new kinds of subatomic particles, types necessarily different from those composing atoms of the ordinary matter all around us. The search to detect and identify these particles is underway in experiments both around the globe and above it. Scientists working with data from NASA's Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope have looked for signals from some of these hypothetical particles by zeroing in on 10 small, faint galaxies that orbit our own. Although no signals have been detected, a novel analysis technique applied to two years of data from the observatory's Large Area Telescope (LAT) has essentially eliminated these particle candidates for the first time. WIMPs, or Weakly Interacting Massive Particles, represent a favored class of dark matter candidates. Some WIMPs may mutually annihilate when pairs of them interact, a process expected to produce gamma rays -- the most energetic form of light -- that the LAT is designed to detect.
